Groq API Setup

Groq provides a free, ultra-fast API for voice transcription. Here’s how to set it up.

1. Create a Groq account

1. Go to console.groq.com
2. Click Sign Up and create an account (Google, GitHub, or email)
3. Confirm your email address if prompted

2. Generate an API key

1. In the Groq console, go to API Keys
2. Click Create API Key
3. Give it a name (e.g., “Hibiki”)
4. Copy the key — it won’t be shown again

Important: Never share your API key. It’s personal.

3. Configure in Hibiki

1. Launch Hibiki Dictate
2. Open Settings (gear icon)
3. In the Transcription tab, select Groq as the engine
4. Paste your API key in the provided field
5. Click Save

Verification

Press your dictation shortcut (default Ctrl+Shift+Space) and speak. If text appears, Groq is correctly configured.

Groq free tier

The free tier offers:

• 14,400 requests/day (audio transcription)
• whisper-large-v3-turbo model (Hibiki default)
• Latency < 1 second for most requests

For normal dictation use, the free tier is more than sufficient.
