Groq API Setup
Groq provides a free, ultra-fast API for voice transcription. Here’s how to set it up.
1. Create a Groq account
- Go to console.groq.com
- Click Sign Up and create an account (Google, GitHub, or email)
- Confirm your email address if prompted
2. Generate an API key
- In the Groq console, go to API Keys
- Click Create API Key
- Give it a name (e.g., “Hibiki”)
- Copy the key — it won’t be shown again
Important: Never share your API key. It’s personal.
3. Configure in Hibiki
- Launch Hibiki Dictate
- Open Settings (gear icon)
- In the Transcription tab, select Groq as the engine
- Paste your API key in the provided field
- Click Save
Verification
Press your dictation shortcut (default Ctrl+Shift+Space) and speak. If text appears, Groq is correctly configured.
Groq free tier
The free tier offers:
- 14,400 requests/day (audio transcription)
- whisper-large-v3-turbo model (Hibiki default)
- Latency < 1 second for most requests
For normal dictation use, the free tier is more than sufficient.
